In a thrilling encounter in Lucknow, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) emerged victorious over Delhi Capitals (DC) in the third match of IPL 2023.
After winning the toss, DC opted to bowl first. LSG openers Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul gave their team a solid start, both scoring half-centuries. De Kock top-scored with 80 runs off 52 deliveries, while Rahul scored 53 off 39 balls.
Mitchell Marsh and Ayush Badoni then provided valuable contributions for LSG, scoring 37 and 34 runs, respectively. Marcus Stoinis played a cameo of 20 runs off 12 balls to help LSG post a formidable total of 200/4 in their 20 overs.
In response, DC got off to a decent start with Prithvi Shaw and David Warner putting on 41 runs for the first wicket. However, LSG bowlers fought back, led by Avesh Khan who claimed the wickets of Shaw and Warner.
DC's middle order struggled to keep up with the required run rate, with Lalit Yadav (22), Rishabh Pant (20), and Rovman Powell (14) failing to provide substantial contributions.
Mark Wood was the pick of the LSG bowlers, finishing with figures of 4-0-30-3, including the crucial wicket of Shaw. Jason Holder and Ravi Bishnoi also chipped in with two wickets each, as DC was eventually bowled out for 143/9 in 19.4 overs.
The victory gives LSG their first win of IPL 2023, while DC remains winless after three matches. LSG will now face Chennai Super Kings in their next match on April 2, while DC will take on Mumbai Indians on April 4.
