Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's Helicopter Crashes, Search and Rescue Underway

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's helicopter crashed in the northwest of the country on Saturday, according to Iranian state media.
The crash occurred while Raisi was returning from a visit to the Kurdistan province, the state-run news agency IRNA reported.
Rescuers are searching for the wreckage and survivors, but no information has been released yet on the condition of Raisi or the nine other people who were reportedly on board the helicopter.
Raisi, a hardline conservative, has been president of Iran since 2021. He is known for his crackdown on political dissent and his support for Iran's nuclear program.
The crash comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, following the collapse of the Iran nuclear deal and the assassination of Iran's top nuclear scientist.
